Whether eHarmony deserves its huge popularity is a moot point, but what it does differently from the rest is take an almost proactive role in the match-making process. It works out what your compatible matches are “scientifically” – using algorithms and scientific shit like that. Must be perfect, right? Not according to all eHarmony dating reviews, though.

eHarmony’s marketing strategy is to push itself as a venue for meeting folks who go through a pre-screening dating procedure, and this determines compatibility with other singles. This is designed to save online daters time and energy spent going through all the online dating profiles – some of which may be nowhere near your requirements on the singles compatibility scale. You get sent some profiles, and you make a selection from these. Easy! This is a “con” (in terms of pros and cons) for those of us who like to do our own choosing. Hey, there could be a prefect match for you, but you won’t see it beacause she ticked the wrong box about her favourite Star Wars character (yep, apparently that’s one of the questions!). So, if you want to be thorough, maybe avoid eHarmony as a dating site for you.

The dreaded dating questionnaire is an experience all eHarmony wannabes have to go through. The list of questions is exhaustive – literally – and many people get turned off at this stage. On the other hand, it sorts out the serious daters from the players. In fact, guys (and girls) who are dating site whores just looking for sex (nothing wrong with that!) should avoid eHarmony like the plague.

Getting your online dating profile together for eHarmony can be a nightmare – be prepared to answer a shitload of questions, some seriously ridiculous. Of course they want you to bare your soul here: what book influenced you the most, who is the person you most admire, what is your favourite colour for underpants etc. On the other hand, if you are a Harry Potter nut and there are others in eHarmony, you will have a better chance of meeting them here than on AdultFriednFinder, for example.

Big downer: on eHarmony you don’t get to see all of the profiles. Only the dating profiles that the system decides are compatible for you. So, you just won’t get to see all the sexy chicks, just the ones the computer picks for you. Great! Or not …

The quickest introduction mechanism on eHarmony is called an “icebreaker” – on other online dating sites they are called winks, kisses and crap like that. And, even if you are stuck for words, good old eHarmony suggests what you can say here in your introductory chat-up line through a drop down menu. Not great in my opinion.

You also have the option of “guided communication” where you send out five questions to girls that take your fancy. I don’t now, where’s the spontaneity? You know, the more I think about it, the less and less I like eHarmonry. Too friggin’ controlling!

Nevertheless, I will not knock this Internet dating service completely. There are literally thousand of success stories, so it must have something going for it – just not my cup of tea.

  • eHarmony is a time wasting exercise.
